This article portrays a study which explores the self-portrait painting phenomenon, conducted by a researcher-artist, who creates real-time, long-term self-portraits, which also served the research’s purposes. The artist views the self-portrait creation process as an act of exploration, establishes the research question, which inquires the phenomenon, seeking to explore the same, with all its deep implications. In that way, throughout the study, she established a structure, to which she referred as an ‘investigating exploration’. The artist explores her inner self, the knowledge, content area, and the outcome.
This article presents the research processes, which were carried out in a tri-stage structure, defined as ‘chain of observations’, and encompasses art and scientific investigation. The article presents the research stages, identifying two exes on which the research occurs, namely, the self-axis, and the research- axis, which cross each other at each stage, while also progress as two parallel lines, with each axis expanding, and delving deeper. The article presents the meta-view and the theoretical connection which raises a conceptual fabric, which accounts for the phenomenon through artistic, cultural, philosophical, and psychological aspects.
Questo articolo presenta uno studio che esplora il fenomeno dell’autoritratto dipinto, condotto da una ricercatrice-artista. L’autrice, dunque, che crea autoritratti in tempo reale e a lungo termine, si è servita di questi suoi quadri anche ai fini della ricerca stessa. Il processo di creazione dell’autoritratto viene visto come atto di esplorazione. Nel saggio viene stabilita quindi innanzitutto la domanda di ricerca, che indaga il fenomeno (cercando di esplorarlo in tutte le sue profonde implicazioni). Per condurre lo studio è stata dunque stabilita una struttura che è servita per l’indagine investigativa stessa; attraverso questa struttura, l’artista ha potuto esplorare il suo sé interiore, la conoscenza, l’area del contenuto e il risultato dell’atto stesso.
Il saggio mostra, quindi, questi processi di ricerca: processi che sono stati condotti attraverso una struttura a tre stadi (definita ‘catena di osservazioni’), che tiene insieme l’arte e la dimensione scientifica. L’articolo presenta le fasi di ricerca del lavoro, identificando i due assi su cui si è mossa la ricerca: ovvero l’asse del sè e l’asse della ricerca stessa, che si incrociano tra loro in ogni fase, mentre procedono anche come due rette parallele, con ogni asse che si muove e diventa sempre più profondo. L’articolo presenta la meta-visione e la connessione teorica che nasce da un tessuto concettuale, quando il fenomeno viene appunto rappresentato attraverso aspetti artistici, culturali, filosofici e psicologici.
