L’animale come creatura.
S. Venezia

The paper aims at rereading Rainer Maria Rilke’s eighth Duino Elegy in a philosophical perspective starting from a strict adherence to the text that allows to overcome the usual dichotomy between man and animal that would see the latter coinciding with the creature, in favour of a reading that also shows that the creature indicates first of all the possibility of accessing the Open as a fundamental experience of relationship. There is no human Open and no animal Open opposite to each other and in according to their different skills, there is only the Open that the creature experiences and that the man – who could access it but simply is not able to – can only see in the eye of the animal, but not of every animal, rather of the animal as a creature.
