Paul Ricœur extensively engaged in the issue of time within the context of his narrative theory by identifying a close relationship between the narrative act and the concept of time. In my present discussion I will bring to light the theoretical aspects which led him to point out the potential of both narrative fiction and narrative history in the structuring of man’s temporal experience. In the last part I will focus on the limits of narrative activity when trying to “weave” time and on the role which the narrative articulation of time plays in the structuring process of collective and individual identity.

Paul Ricœur si è occupato della problematica del tempo nel contesto della sua teoria del racconto. Egli ha individuato una stretta relazione tra l’operazione di raccontare e la temporalità. Nella presente trattazione intendo mettere in luce gli aspetti teorici che gli hanno consentito di individuare le possibilità del racconto di finzione e del racconto storico di articolare il tempo. Nella parte finale mi soffermerò sui limiti dell’attività narrativa di poter dire il tempo e sull’importanza che essa svolge nel processo di strutturazione dell’identità personale e collettiva.
